Instructions for Submitting Articles

Published by The Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE), The Journal of Private Enterprise brings together scholars in such fields as economics, education, entrepreneurship, ethics, finance, management, marketing, and religion who have done research on topics pertaining to systems of private enterprise worldwide. Articles of 12 to 15 pages of double spaced text are best, but longer manuscripts will be considered if the content appears worthwhile. In addition, a regular section of the Journal is devoted to educational notes that average five pages; these short accounts describe innovations in teaching topics in private enterprise of interest to Journal readers.

  1. Submissions should be emailed as double spaced Microsoft Word attachments to the Editor, Edward Peter Stringham, at edward.stringham@trincoll.edu .
  2. The submission fee is waived for papers presented at the annual APEE conference. Otherwise articles may be submitted for $45 (plus a $70 APEE membership fee if the submitting author is not yet a member). The submission fee should be mailed to Prof. Gerald Gunderson, Associate Editor, Journal of Private Enterprise, Trinity College, 300 Summit Street, Hartford, CT 06106.

Only notes that add comments beyond the citation require a separate footnote. Please use footnotes rather than endnotes.
  3. Acknowledgements and related information should appear in a footnote indicated by an asterisk after the last author's name; further footnotes should be numbered consecutively and indicated by superscripts.
  4. All papers should include an abstract of not more than 100 words.

  6. All papers should include three to six keywords below the abstract.
  7. A rticles should conform to current stylistic guidelines based on the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary . Please keep the formatting and layout of the text as simple as possible.

  9. Also use italics, subscript and superscript as needed; please avoid all caps and underlining.
  10. Figures and tables should be no more than 4.5 inches wide and preferably no more than 7.5 inches tall. Should you wish to include a figure or table that is larger than these dimensions, please contact the editor for guidance.

To ensure that your table is the appropriate width in MS Word, please follow these instructions: Select your entire table. In the Table menu, choose Table Properties. In the Table tab, check the "Preferred width" box and set it to 4.5". Also in the Table tab, set the alignment to Center. Close the Table Properties box. Tables should be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals and have explanatory titles that are in the text above the table rather than in one of the table cells. Notes for the table should be text underneath the table, not in the table cells. Text in the table should be 10 point Garamond or larger to ensure readability. Please see sample below or check past issues of the journal for examples.

Figures should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (separate from tables) and have explanatory captions. Figure captions should appear underneath the figure and be part of the text, not part of the jpeg or other figure file. Please see sample below or check recent issues of the journal for examples.

Please format your tables so they look professional. For examples, click here .
